Writing Prompt What was the worst experience you ever had with a doctor or other health care worker?

I was eighteen and a virgin although I had fooled around with guys.  My mom took me to the doctor because I was having a burning sensation when going to the bathroom.  I had a vaginal infection but the doctor's visit was also my first experience with having a pap smear.  It was horrible, not only because of what it was but because the doctor didn't believe me when I said I was a virgin.

See, they always make you take a pregnancy test, but I was so nervous about the whole exam and what was going on with my body that when the doctor told me that the test was negative, I was obviously relieved.  She took that to mean that I was lying about being a virgin.  So when it was time for the pap smear, she had me go into a different room with her and change.  She came back in without a nurse and had me get up on the table for the test.  She tried to slide the metal tube thing into me but it was too large and she wasn't able to.  So she told me she was going to go get a smaller one, I thought at this point she finally believed me, but in the end she left me on the table with my legs in the stirrups for what felt like forever.  I'm sure it was really only for ten minutes or so, but I was mortified, terrified and humiliated by what she had done.

It took me years to have another pap smear done, and then it was with a nurse practitioner that I truly trusted.  It is still something that I have to build up my courage to go through with each and every year.
